Hundreds of hockey enthusiasts from around the world will descend on the Capital for a major tournament, it was announced today.

The Golden Oldies World Hockey Festival said it would be coming to the Capital in 2011 after striking a deal with EventScotland.

It comes hot on the heels of a similar rugby event which took place last year, and it is hoped the hockey version will attract a similar number of participants and supporters.

It is estimated that the event could generate as much as £1 million for the city.

Paul Bush, chief operating officer for EventScotland, said: "In 2008 Edinburgh hosted the Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival which was a phenomenal success.

"Hosting the World Hockey Festival in 2011 will, without doubt, build upon this success."
