Christmas trees will be uplifted with bin collections in January.

The recycling service is being made available for the first time for residents who do not have brown bins. Trees can also be taken to community recycling centres at Braehead, Craigmillar, Seafield and Sighthill.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, environment leader, said: "People can ensure that their Christmas tree is recycled."

Those without brown garden waste bins should place their tree beside their on-street communal wheelie bins for collection on:

• for East – January 6, 13, 20

• for North – January 7, 14, 21

• for West – January 8, 15, 22

• for South – January 9, 16, 23

• for City Centre – January 5-9, 12-16 or 19-23
