Residents get tackling crime

Security conscious householders in the north of the Capital have formed a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

Residents in the Western Harbour development, in Newhaven, worked with police to begin the group last month.

The move was in part a response to cars in the area being targeted by thieves throughout October – six of 17 thefts across Newhaven happened at the development.

The Neighbourhood Watch joins one at nearby Platinum Point, meaning the whole area is under community surveillance.

The Association of Scottish Neighbourhood Watches will host an awards dinner in April to recognise the achievements of those involved in the scheme.
