A model tram will go on display in Princes Street once the road closes to traffic, it has been confirmed.

The life-size replica will be situated outside Jenners following the street's eight-month closure from February 21.

City leader Councillor Jenny Dawe urged members of the public to visit the mock up, where they will be able to look inside the interior and the driver's compartment.

More than 24,000 people visited a replica of a tram that was put in Princes Street Gardens in 2005 to garner support for the scheme – making it one of the most popular visitor attractions in Scotland for the three weeks it was on show.

The exhibition featured information boards and newsletters outlining facts about the tram proposals.
