The Royal Mail has decided to extend the opening times of its Callers Offices in Edinburgh, to help customers collect letters, parcels and packets in the run up to Christmas.

From Monday, December 15, until Christmas Eve, the normal hours will be extended to make it as convenient as possible for customers.

The Callers Offices at Brunswick Road, Gorgie Park Road, Comely Bank, Windsor Place, Bridge End, Strathearn Road, Falcon Road West and South Gyle Crescent will also be open later on Saturday, December 20, and they will open on Sunday, December 21 as well. Opening times differ for each office, but the majority will be open until 6pm on weekdays and until 5pm on Christmas Eve.

This year, Royal Mail anticipates a festive mailbag of around 214 million items in Scotland and two billion items in the UK.

Ricky McAulay, Royal Mail area general manager for the east of Scotland said: "This year Royal Mail is prepared for its biggest online Christmas ever."

The last posting date for second class mail is Thursday, December 18, while first call post should be mailed by Saturday, December 20.
