Hogmanay Bus Services

Lothian Buses will be operating a Saturday Service on December 31, with last buses finishing at approximately 2200   (click here for last journeys).

Buses running through the City Centre will be disrupted throughout the day as streets are progressively closed in preparation for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party.

December 31 Diversions:

Three separate diversions will affect bus routes on December 31. All diversions apply in both directions unless otherwise stated. In addition to these three diversions Services 8, 36 & 100 will be diverted all day as described:

* Service 8: From start of service until end of service will operate via Leith Street. 

* Service 36: From start of service until end of service will operate via Charlotte Square, Queen Street, London Road, Abbeymount and Abbeyhill to Horse Wynd, Holyrood.

* Service 100: From start of service until 1800 will operate via Charlotte Square and Queen Street terminating at St. Andrew Square all day. After 1800 hours buses will operate from Haymarket via Manor Place, Melville Street, Queensferry Street, Charlotte Square and Queen Street to St Andrew Square.

 

Diversion 1 (click here for map)

Start of service until 1400 hours: Princes Street will be closed in its entirety. Buses normally using Princes Street will be diverted via Charlotte Square, Leith Street and Queen Street. There will be NO temporary bus stops on Queen Street. Services crossing The Mound and Hanover Street remain on their normal routes.

 

Diversion 2 (click here for map)

1400 hours until 1800 hours: Diversion 1 continues, however The Mound and Hanover Street are also closed to traffic. Services 23 & 27 are diverted from Tollcross via Lothian Road, Charlotte Square and Queen Street to Dundas Street. Services 41 & 42 are diverted from Forrest Road via Chambers Street to South Bridge joining the other already diverted services via Leith Street and Queen Street.

 

Diversion 3 (click here for map)

1800 hours until 2200 hours: From 1800 hours Shandwick Place and the Foot of Lothian Road are also closed to traffic. There are significant changes to diversions 1 & 2 already in place.

Services from Haymarket to Leith Walk or London Road are diverted via Manor Place, Melville Street, Queensferry Street, Charlotte Square and Queen Street.

Services from Haymarket to Nicolson Street are diverted via Morrison Link, West Approach Road, Lothian Road, Lauriston Place, Forrest Road/Bristo Place, Potterrow and Nicolson Square.

Services from Tollcross to Dundas Street, Leith Walk or London Road will be diverted via Lauriston Place, Forrest Road/Bristo Place, Chambers Street, South Bridge, North Bridge and Leith Street (buses to Dundas Street continue via Queen Street). Service 22 will follow this diversion route via Lothian Road. Services 1 & 34 will follow this diversion route from Fountainbridge eastbound via Lothian Road and westbound via Lady Lawson Street and East Fountainbridge. Services 41 & 42 follow this diversion route from Forrest Road/Bristo Place.

Services from North Bridge to Stockbridge or Dean Bridge will be diverted via Leith Street and Queen Street (buses to Dean Bridge continue via Charlotte Square and Queensferry Street). Service 19 follows this diversion route from Leith Street.
