Gas works to close city street

A £900,000 scheme to replace ageing gas mains in Holyrood Road will close the street at its junction with The Pleasance from Monday.

Motorists will still be able to access the road through Holyrood Park, according to Scotia Gas Networks, the company carrying out the repairs.

A spokeswoman for the firm said the work would take a maximum of three weeks to be completed and would see engineers remove old pipes which have already been replaced by new ones.

In November, SGN blamed emergency gas repairs in Holyrood Road on the tram works after being prevented from carrying out the mains replacement work properly the first time around.

The company spent over a year carrying out the work but said it was unable to complete the job because it was stopped by the city council due to the tram project.
