People in Edinburgh and Lothians looking for the facts about college and university are invited to the Higher Education Convention taking place in the Edinburgh Napier University on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September.

The Convention, organised by Skills Development Scotland, in association with UCAS, is the biggest of its kind in the area and will see college and university representatives from all over the UK gather under one roof.

Over 60 institutions will attend the event to provide information and advice to prospective students and their parents. Details about further and higher education courses, accommodation and funding opportunities will be among the wealth of information on offer. All Scottish universities and local colleges will be represented and there will be a range of institutions from other parts of the UK.

Every secondary school in Edinburgh and Lothians has been invited. However, the Convention is open to people of all ages who are interested in further and higher education. There is also a late afternoon session aimed at adults and parents who wish to accompany their sons and daughters. All sessions are free. The late afternoon session runs from 4.30pm to 6.00pm.

For people who need some help with the next step, Skills Development Scotland’s Careers Scotland advisers will be on hand to provide impartial and professional career information, advice and support.

Patricia Thomson, local Manager with Skills Development Scotland, said,

“The Education Convention should not be missed by anyone considering further or higher education. It is a great opportunity to get the facts about a wide range of courses, colleges and universities. Making the right choice involves careful planning and understanding, and this convention brings all the experts together.”

“Further and higher education can mean a significant commitment for the whole family and it’s important that students and their parents have access to the facts before they make any decisions.”
