The pioneering work of Edinburgh community groups to reduce carbon emissions has been highlighted at the Scottish Parliament.

Lothians SNP MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville, during a members debate on Climate Change, said local groups should be applauded for the work they have carried out with funding from the Scottish Government's new Climate Challenge Fund.

The £27.4 million Climate Challenge Fund has been set up to support community-led action to cut emissions.

Lothians projects include the innovative Portobello Transition Group, which has won funding for a community audit and awareness raising campaign.

Speaking at the event, Ms Somerville said: "I am delighted that the Transition movement is going from strength to strength with support from the Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund."
