Hundreds of householders in Edinburgh were left high and dry today after a water main burst.

Scottish Water engineers managed to restore supplies in the west of the capital before noon, just an hour and a half after the first complaints from customers.

A Scottish Water spokesman said: 'Our engineers worked quickly to restore supplies to customers in the EH12 area of Edinburgh We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience this burst may have caused.'
