Edinburgh
based, Absolutely Legless are taking their full show of Irish Music, Song & Dance to the Netherbow Theatre on Saturday 11th June at 7pm.  Their show continues to entertain audiences in ScotlandEurope and beyond. They have just returned from the Riviera and will soon travel to Slovenia to take part in an international festival of music, song and dance.

Whether it is the fast moving steps, the lilting lyrics, or the foot tapping music that you enjoy, you will be guaranteed an evening full of traditional Irish entertainment.

Inspired by the Irish hard and soft shoe traditions, Absolutely Legless perform original dances in a relaxed and informal manner while remaining faithful to their roots. The dancers combine the grace of the soft shoes with the power and rhythmic precision of the hard shoes to provide a truly exhilarating experience.

This approach is reflected in the music from the band, which seamlessly weaves the evocative melodies and driving rhythms of Irish dance music. The unique line-up of fiddles, flutes and guitar play new arrangements of traditional and original airs, jigs and reels.

This combination of the energy of the dancers and Celtic rhythms of the band entertains audiences every time and Absolutely Legless are well-received wherever they appear.

Absolutely Legless was started in 1997 by Dianne Newman, who has competed in numerous world championships, and taught pupils from across the globe. She was keen to create a group which would offer something for people of all ages and backgrounds, which is apparent in the diverse range of members.

The youngest dancer is aged 15 from East Lothian and the eldest in their fifties. The group consists of students, doctors, nurses and accountants – all who share one love – Irish dance and music. Although the group is based in Edinburgh, we have members who come from FifeDumfries and Galloway, West and East Lothian and of course from Ireland.

The group last year performed at Folkmoot USA in North Carolina where they danced alongside dancers and musicians from as far afield as Colombia and Costa Rica. Other tours have included HungarySicilyTurkey and Poland, and in the past 2 years the group have appeared on BBC’s Tonight’s the Night, and RTE’s Nationwide.

Absolutely Legless are performing at the Netherbow Theatre, at the Scottish Storytelling Centre 43-45 High StreetEdinburgh on Saturday 11th June for one night only.

Don’t miss out on a rare opportunity to see the group perform in Edinburgh.

Ticket prices are £10.00 (£8.00 concessions). For tickets contact the Scottish Storytelling Centre on 0131 556 9579 or visit their website at www.scottishstorytellingcentre.co,uk
