A series of mini-fireworks displays are set to count down the hours to midnight as Edinburgh gets ready for its Hogmanay street party.

Organisers of this year's event have lined up one-minute displays from Edinburgh Castle for nine, ten and 11 o'clock as a taster for the main display at midnight.

Revellers attending the street party are being warned to wrap up well in the face of expected sub-zero temperatures tonight.

And once the clock strikes midnight the 100,000 revellers on Princes Street will be invited to join a world record attempt for the most people singing Auld Lang Syne in unison.

A special video of the classic Hogmanay song has been commissioned and will be beamed on the big screens dotted along Princes Street. As well as the fireworks display, the start of 2009 will also be marked by a new light and laser show.
